I figure I should start by talking about myself. We should start with my name. I was named William after one of my Dad's uncles. He was a Christian Brother and I still have his ring. My second name, Gerard, was after my Mom's father. Michael was my confirmation name, after the Archangel. Rock is just my last name, some Irish that we trace all the way back to Ireland. My earliest American forefathers got off the boat in the early 1800's.
I was born on 4 Jan 84. Lived and raised in Caldwell, NJ. I attended preschool at the 1st Presbyterian Church, grammar school up at Lincoln, middle school at Grover Cleveland Middle School, graduated with the class of 2002 from James Caldwell High School.
I earned my Black Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do back in sixth grade, about three years after I started. I had always been active in the Scouting program. Starting in kindergarden as a Tiger cub all the way up to Boy Scouting. I earned my Eagle back in the Fall of 99. I served as Senior Patrol leader of Troop 9 West Caldwell twice. I am currently an Assistant Scout Master. I also attended two National Scout Jamorree's and one International one in Chile.
Now, I am considered at bit odd. I enjoy country music and I guess I have been drawn in by the lore of the west. I sport a cowboy hat around school and know how to line dance. I even wore cowboy boots to my Prom last spring. That is why I named my site "The Open Range".
I've been a whole bunch of places. I've been to a good a good amount of the states as well as Canada, Spain, and Chile. My most recent trip was to Fort AP Hill, VA for the National Scout Jamboree.
I am currently a Cadet Private First Class in the Virginia Tech Cadet Corps. I am ratting in Kilo Battery, but I am not a member yet. My bud class is K-06. As a member of Air Force ROTC I am trying to earn a commision in the Air Force. I hope to get involved in space and missles, then a Space Command, and eventually NASA. I am an aerospace engineering major. Down at Tech I met my girlfriend. Her name is Samantha LaPlante. She is a wonderful girl and I love spending time with her. Sam means so much to me. We have a great relationship and I hope it continues to grow. She is going to be joining the Corps next year. I am a member of the Eagle Scout Organization and am currently tapping ROC, a recruiting organization for the Corps. I was at one point the bearded cadet, but that is another story. |
